P&G & iHeartMedia Join Forces for the Return of “Can’t Cancel Pride” on June 4, benefiting OutRight
June is Pride month – four weeks usually filled with parades, protest marches and a variety of other expressions for the dignity, equality, and human rights of LGBTIQ people. It is a time for LGBTIQ movements to reflect on the progress so far and build momentum for the much-needed change still to come.
It is also a time when allies from different sectors, including the private sector, amplify their expressed commitment to LGBTIQ equality.
OutRight is thrilled to again partner with P&G and iHeart Radio on Can’t Cancel Pride, a virtual relief benefit on June 4 at 9 p.m. ET for the LGBTIQ+ community. The event will stream on iHeartRadio’s TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram TV pages, iHeartRadio’s PrideRadio.com and Revry, and broadcast on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app.
The virtual relief benefit will feature performances and appearances from influential voices in the community as well as big names in culture and entertainment. Hosted by Elvis Duran and Singer-Songwriter Bebe Rexha, the virtual relief benefit will feature performances and appearances from Bebe Rexha, Brothers Osborne, Busy Phillips, Demi Lovato, Gus Kenworthy, Hayley Kiyoko, Jennifer Hudson, JoJo Siwa, Lil Nas X, Marshmello, MJ Rodriguez, Nina West, P!NK, Ricky Martin, Regard, Troye Sivan, Tate McRae and more.
The second annual event will demonstrate that nothing can cancel the heart of Pride and the spirit of the LGBTIQ+ equality movement by focusing on intersectionality and the issues that continue to impact the LGBTIQ+ community in 2021, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While most physical events are cancelled again this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic – and OutRight continues to stand in solidarity with LGBTIQ communities around the globe, providing essential emergency and humanitarian support through our COVID-19 GLOBAL LGBTIQ EMERGENCY FUND – nothing can cancel Pride or what it stands for. In this spirit, one June 4 P&G and iHeart Radio, along with numerous other partners and supporters, will host a virtual event featuring inspirational voices from the LGBTIQ community and allies – including leaders from OutRight.
The surrounding #CantCancelPride campaign, which will run throughout June aims to raise millions again this year for LGBTIQ equality and racial justice, with proceeds going to six different civil society organizations including OutRight Action International.
In 2020, the first-ever “Can’t Cancel Pride: A COVID-19 Relief Benefit for the LGBTQ+ Community” took place on June 25. The virtual relief benefit helped raise visibility and funds for LGBTIQ+ communities most impacted by COVID-19; the pandemic had a damaging effect on the fund-raising efforts that LGBTIQ+ organizations rely on to survive. It has also closed community centers, prevented support groups to meet in person and has had an adverse effect on several industries in which so many LGBTIQ+ people make their living. Partnering with six organizations with a long track-record in creating positive change within the community, “Can’t Cancel Pride” raised over $4 million with true authenticity and life-saving impact. Hosted by Elvis Duran and Laverne Cox, the one-hour benefit special brought together influential voices in the LGBTIQ+ community as well as big names in culture and entertainment with performances by Adam Lambert, Ben Platt, Big Freedia with Tank and the Bangas, Katy Perry, Kim Petras, Melissa Etheridge, Sia, Ricky Martin and Carla Morrison, as well as John Cameron Mitchell, Neil Patrick Harris, Darren Criss, Andrew Rannells and more. In addition to music, “Can’t Cancel Pride” also featured special appearances from Billy Porter, Bebe Rexha, Cara Delevingne, Ciara, Dan Levy, Hayley Kiyoko, Kermit The Frog, Lena Waithe, Matt Bomer, Nico Tortorella, Peppermint, Tituss Burgess and more.
Stay tuned for full details and lineup announcement for the 2021 “Can’t Cancel Pride” in the coming weeks. And make sure to tune in on June 4 at 9 p.m. ET. The event will stream on iHeartRadio’s TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram TV pages, iHeartRadio’s PrideRadio.com and Revry, and broadcast on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app.
