Applications to OutRight’s COVID-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund Closed on April 30

OutRight Action International has closed applications to its COVID-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund as of midnight EDT on April 30, 2020.

The fund was launched at the beginning of April in collaboration with founding partners Calvin Klein, Inc., Microsoft Corp. and the Dunn Family Charitable Foundation to offer emergency financial resources to LGBTIQ organizations around the world who are serving people impacted by COVID-19. Within the first two weeks of opening for applications, OutRight received over 1100 applications.

We have learned from applications about the local LGBTIQ communities that are stepping up to care for each other. This is what OutRight’s Emergency Fund can support. We want to raise more money - a lot more - so that we can provide as many grants possible to the LGBTIQ organizations and reach people who may not be helped by governments or relief efforts.

We knew as we embarked on this project that during times of crisis vulnerable communities become even more vulnerable. But OutRight did not expect the need to be so overwhelming. It is painfully clear that effects of COVID-19 and even more so the ensuing government lock-downs, are amplified for LGBTIQ people, with an immense number of people from our community facing an acute shortage of the most basic needs - food, shelter, and medication, not to mention the amplified levels of domestic violence, psychological toll and barriers to accessing healthcare.
