The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) Asia represents more than 100 member organizations. ILGA Asia hosts a bi-annual conference that is the highest level decision making body of ILGA Asia. This year the conference was held in Seoul, Korea.
OutRight’s Jean Chong, Asia Program Field Coordinator, and Ging Cristobal, Asia Project Coordinator, attended the conference that focused on “Building Alliances to Strengthen the Movement”. Highlights from some of the discussions and panels can be seen below.
One of the main highlights for Jean and Ging was their participation in a plenary discussion on "Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence against LGBT persons in Asia." The plenary speakers and moderator were:
- Mandy Ng from Sayoni, Singapore
- Justine Zhang of Common Language, China
- Leo Peng of Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline
- Ging Cristobal, OutRight Action International
- Moderator: Jean Chong, OutRight Action International
The panel was attended by more than 60 persons from all over Asia and we received lots of questions during and after the session. The event received a lot of feedback from participants that the session was the most well organized and informative session in ILGA Asia. There were also a lot of follow up questions to the speakers after the session.
