Jessica Stern honored as one of Crain’s New York Business 2020 LGBTIQ leaders and executives
Crain’s New York Business honored 70 LGBTIQ leaders and executives from various industries and occupations, among them our own fearless leader Jessica Stern. Crain’s honorees were selected for their involvement in community and industry organizations, mentorship of others, and career accomplishments.
As executive director of OutRight Action International, Jessica Stern has championed gender, sexuality and human rights around the globe, including supporting the legal registration of LGBTIQ groups, securing the U.N. Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity mandate, and moving the U.N. LBGTI Core Group forward. When India’s Supreme Court decriminalized same-sex relations, Stern’s writing was cited in the decision; her writing is also part of the Oxford Handbook of Women, Peace and Security. Stern advises governments and human rights groups, including UN Women, which she serves as a member of the LGBTI Reference Group. In response to COVID-19, Jessica has been at the forefront, issuing a COVID-19 Global LGBTIQ Emergency Fund to offer emergency financial resources to queer organizations around the world who are serving people impacted by COVID-19 and releasing a pioneering report, “Vulnerability Amplified: The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on LGBTIQ people”, documenting effects of the pandemic on LGBTIQ people.
