Jessica Stern Joins Panel Discussion on Chechnya

Please join Proskauer's LGBT Affinity Group and the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York for a panel discussion titled Chechnya: Reacting to a Gay Purge.

Multiple media outlets have reported the arbitrary mass detention, torture and killing of more than 100 men by Chechen authorities for their alleged "non-traditional" sexual orientation. Spokespeople for Chechnya's government deny such acts, stating that LGBT people "don't exist in the republic." With a startling scale of systematic persecution, what can be done by international organizations to hold Chechen authorities accountable?

Join us for a panel discussion that will examine the situation in Chechnya and other areas on the globe with systematic violence against LGBT individuals. The panel will also address the ways activists and advocates can help to address such persecution, including through pro bono representation of individuals seeking asylum in the U.S.
