In an article that discusses the new affirmative action initiatives taking place in Argentina, OutRight Deputy Executive Director Maria Sjödin is quoted. Argentina legally recognizes gender “self-identification,” a process in which trans individuals are able to change their legal gender without needing permission from courts or judges. Argentina’s president, Alberto Fernández, is now instituting a quota for trans individuals working in the public sector, along with tax incentives for employers in the private sector. Maria comments on how Argentina’s law regarding trans individuals is the “gold standard among activists around the world.”
