Beginning with a discussion about gender-based violence (GBV) before COVID-19, the panel will delve deeply into the alarming increase in GBV worldwide existing in parallel to COVID-19 now labeled as ‘the Shadow Pandemic’. The panel will investigate how individuals, civil society, and governments are currently responding to COVID-19’s exacerbation of GBV, with a specific focus on intersectionality, immediacy, and success. With direct attention on global factors that exacerbate GBV and lessons learned from successful anti-GBV initiatives, the panel will culminate in a conversation on the impact of a chaotic future - characterized by climate change caused natural disasters, heightened social polarization, etc - on GBV and gender inequality. The panel will spotlight children, LGBTQIA+, BAME, and disabled communities’ experiences of the Shadow Pandemic.
The panel will be translated into French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
