The Regional Consultation recognizes and builds on previous work in advancing the rights and the well-being of LGBTIQ people, reducing inequality based on sexual orientation and gender identity and supporting inclusive development in the region including UNDP, Being LGBTIQ in Asia Initiative, UN Free and Equal Campaign for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality, etc.

    Kevin Schumacher, Regional Program Coordinator for MENA, was invited by the UN Association of USA to talk at their annual gathering on refugee issues. Other members of the panel included a representative from Doctors Without Borders and a Syrian young woman whose father is abducted by the Assad government and her family is refugee in Turkey, waiting for resettlement in the USA.
