"If LGBT communities—and the world—don't pay attention, we will wake up one dark morning to see that Bahati and his cronies have made gay lives unlivable in Uganda."
-Cary Alan Johnson, Executive Director IGLHRC

On February 6th, 2012, Ugandan MP David Bahati, reintroduced the now infamous anti-homosexuality bill which he authored and first introduced to parliament in 2009. The bill, which would introduce penalties up to the death sentence for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, has been widely condemned by the international community, including the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission.

Statement from Cary Alan Johnson, Executive Director, International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC)

"The regular and gnawing reintroduction of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill to the floor of the house of the Ugandan Parliament appears to be an attempt yet again to tie up the meager resources and attention of Uganda's beleaguered lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender community. If LGBT communities—and the world—don't pay attention, we will wake up one dark morning to see that Bahati and his cronies have made gay lives unlivable in Uganda."
