In an article about the ongoing takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, Deputy Director of OutRight, Maria Sjödin, is quoted by the Daily Beast. Commenting on the situation of LGBTIQ Afghans, Maria notes that she has heard from people “desperately trying to get out of Afghanistan,” due to the threat that the Taliban poses for the LGBTIQ community. Despite the clear and present danger, Maria further comments that opportunities to flee are few and far between.
