Outright International’s OutSummit 2024 is your opportunity to be at the forefront of global LGBTIQ advocacy. Taking place on December 9 in Washington D.C., this year's OutSummit will unite activists, advocates, academics, philanthropists, policymakers, and other stakeholders from around the world. The event will delve into pressing issues, including how LGBTIQ fared in elections around the world in 2024; global intersex advocacy agendas for law and policy change; the power of transfeminist narratives in uniting LBQ and trans people to push back against anti-gender movements; LGBTIQ inclusion in economic development and humanitarian assistance, and more.

Outright International is deeply grateful to OutSummit host and Presenting Sponsor, JPMorganChase.

The in-person event in Washington D.C. is by invitation only. Anyone can be part of the conversation by registering for the virtual live stream, which is open to all. Whether you're attending in person or virtually, OutSummit 2024 offers you an unparalleled opportunity to engage with leading voices from across the world and take part in shaping the future of LGBTIQ advocacy.

What to Expect at OutSummit 2024

Documentation

We conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative research to produce evidence of human rights violations, collect data on LGBTIQ lives, and identify best practices.

Accountability

We believe evidence-based human rights research is the most effective way to hold governments accountable for failing to meet human rights obligations and standards.

Collaboration

Over our 30-year history, we have partnered with activists from all over the world to produce hundreds of groundbreaking reports.

Impact

Our research feeds into strategic advocacy around legal and policy change in order to advance the human rights of LGBTIQ people.

Program

OutSummit is more than just a conference; it’s a global call to action. It promises to be a powerful, insightful experience for all attendees, bringing together a global coalition committed to advancing LGBTIQ persons' human rights and justice. Don't miss your chance to be part of the movement.

Outright International is committed to strengthening the LGBTIQ movement’s ability to challenge anti-LGBTIQ and anti-gender movements, including by centering intersectional feminism, elevating lesbian, bisexual, queer, and transgender voices, and mobilizing our communities as part of broad progressive and inclusive coalitions.

One current program contributes to strengthening alliances between trans and LBQ groups that are affected by the exclusionary discourses and policies advanced by anti-rights groups. Collaboration between trans and LBQ groups allows for a broader range of experiences and perspectives to be heard and shared, demonstrating that the seemingly singular attacks on trans people, LBQ women, and straight, cisgender women alike attack the very core of feminism.

This moderated conversation will feature two speakers from LBQ organizations and two from trans organizations. It will draw out their everyday struggles and how they are developing transfeminist narratives that allow them to define themselves and push back against anti-gender ideology.

Join us to discuss an emerging focus in the global LGBTIQ movement – achieving inclusive economies.  From educational advancement to banking services to job opportunities, LGBTIQ people are deprived of the necessities of a dignified life.

The 2030 Agenda remains sorely unfulfilled, and LGBTIQ people are still being left behind. This session will address new strategies emerging from civil society, economic development experts, the corporate sector, and beyond to help improve the lives of LGBTIQ people so that all can live, work, create, and be who they are.

Intersex people around the world face a slew of human rights issues, yet they are often the least visible communities within the LGBTIQ rainbow. Priority human rights issues include intersex genital mutilation, Infanticide, discrimination, bullying in schools, access to intersex-affirming healthcare, and legal gender recognition. Intersex human rights activism is severely under-resourced, receiving less than 2% of all LGBTIQ funding.

There is, however, a growing and vibrant movement, including in the Global South, with groups in some countries actively engaged in advocacy and making significant progress. This panel will highlight intersex activists from three different regions, sharing the priorities, challenges, and opportunities they are experiencing in each of their countries.

In 2024, nearly fifty percent of the global population in over 64 countries will go to elections. This is an unprecedented year of global elections since the inception of electoral democracy. But what do elections mean for LGBTIQ people during an unprecedented turn towards authoritarianism and anti-rights populism? This panel will feature panelists from Asia, Europe, and Africa discussing how LGBTIQ people are participating, being barred from, and engaging with electoral democracies in this year of elections. The panelists will critically examine electoral democracy and focus on particular elections, anti-rights, gender-critical campaigns, and actors shaping elections in their contexts.
