How to Give

Help Outright International and our partners around the world push for change so that all LGBTIQ people everywhere can live with dignity and free from violence.

There are many ways to give

Every cent counts! Give monthly or make a one-time gift.

    • $1,000 allows an LGBTIQ organization in a crisis to provide humanitarian aid for five LGBTIQ people for a week
    • $500 funds a local LGBTIQ sensitivity training for media journalists, law enforcement agents or medical providers
    • $250 helps subsidize one month of safe housing for one LGBTIQ person
    • $75 purchases 40 lbs of rice or beans for an LGBTIQ person in a crisis
    • $50 prints 350 pamphlets for an LGBTIQ community center to distribute to at-risk LGBTIQ people
    • $30 helps one LGBTIQ person in a crisis buy food for two weeks
    • $25 provides 60 minutes of capacity-building support for an LGBTIQ front-line human rights defender
    • $10 provides one week of internet connection for an LGBTIQ community center

Outright’s work is made possible thanks to the generous support of individuals like you. Outright’s federal tax identification number (EIN) is: 94-3139952. Here are all the different methods you can use to make your donation. Please note that Outright International does not provide tax or legal advice. Speak with your professional tax or legal advisor with questions about gifts of all types to Outright.

    Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

A donor advised fund (DAF) allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support Outright International and other public charities through cash, appreciated securities, and other assets. DAFs allow you to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from your DAF account over time to the nonprofits you wish to support. Please consider recommending Outright as an organization to support through your donor advised fund.

If you have a DAF with Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or BNY Mellon, you can make your grant recommendation to Outright through the DAF Direct online form. If the sponsoring institution hosting your donor advised fund is not listed here, please contact your wealth or philanthropic adviser directly to make your recommendation. You can also use The Giving Block DAF online donation tool on this page to make a gift from your DAF right now.

If you do not wish to make your DAF grant recommendation via DAF Direct, please direct your DAF sponsoring organization to make checks payable to Outright International and mail to:

    Securities (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds)

In the US, you can donate stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to Outright, receive a charitable tax deduction, and avoid paying capital gains tax on any increase in the stock value. Transferring stock is a great way to make a tax-deductible gift. You can transfer stock quickly and easily to Outright by using The Giving Block donation form on this page. Alternatively, you can email a member of Outright’s Donor Concierge Team with the Subject line “Securities” for instructions about how to transfer stock from your brokerage account.

    IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

You can name Outright as the beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy or other unused assets such as CDs, bank or brokerage accounts, savings bonds, Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), etc. These gifts are often larger than donors can give during their lifetime and have a huge impact on our work. They can also reduce or eliminate estate and income taxes for your loved ones. You can name Outright as the beneficiary of your plan/policy/account so that when you pass away, the assets pass to Outright, or as a contingent beneficiary with the assets passing to Outright only if your primary beneficiary does not survive you. To make Outright a beneficiary of your retirement account, life insurance policy, or other accounts, contact your financial institution, request a change of beneficiary form, and complete with the following information:

    Outright International

    Retirement Plans and Life Insurance

In the US, people who are seventy-and-a-half or older can contribute up to USD $100,000 from their IRA directly to a charity and avoid paying income taxes on the distribution. This is known as a qualified charitable distribution. It is limited to IRAs, and there are other exclusions and considerations as well.

    Quote from Tom Watson

“In my 60 years, I’ve personally experienced the real life impact of the successful LGBTI movement. The global momentum toward equality has been achieved in part because of Outright’s decades-long activism at the forefront of the international LGBTI movement. Progress is hard-earned but it’s also precarious. I know Outright will still be around fighting for us in the long run.”

    Quote from Dorothy Sander

“Outright’s work is so necessary in this world, expanding public policy and fighting for equal rights for LGBTQI people around the globe, country-by-country. It takes special people to keep ideas and conversations moving. And money; and that’s why I’m a donor. The work Outright does with local organizations in many regions of the world brings real change.”

    Quote from Dipti Ghosh

My partner Meggy and I are immigrants to the US, and are fortunate to enjoy a level of civil liberties not afforded to many LGBTQ people around the world, including in our home countries. It is going to be a long and hard fight and I want to do our small part to make sure Outright can continue to do their outstanding work.”
