New York, New York - December 5, 2024 - Outright International will host the 10th annual OutSummit, a global convening of activists, advocates, academics, government, funders, and the private sector dedicated to addressing critical lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) issues and shaping the future of global LGBTIQ advocacy. The event comes at a pivotal time of notable legislative changes, attacks, and victories impacting the lives of LGBTIQ people around the world.

OutSummit will feature over a dozen LGBTIQ activists from 10 countries who will speak to some of the most pressing issues for LGBTIQ people globally. It will provide a platform to assess how LGBTIQ issues and individuals fared in what was the biggest election year in history. High on OutSummit’s agenda is the global intersex advocacy agenda for law and policy change and the power of transfeminist narratives in uniting LBQ and trans people to push back against anti-gender movements that continue to gain momentum and threaten tens of millions around the world. The Summit will also address LGBTIQ inclusion in economic development and humanitarian assistance, among other critical topics.

This year's OutSummit will take place on December 9, 2024, in Washington, D.C., and will be live-streamed to registrants (please register), offering a unique opportunity for hundreds of participants to engage, strategize, and shape the future of global LGBTIQ advocacy in a rapidly changing political landscape.

Quote from Maria Sjödin

“The 10th annual OutSummit is more than a milestone—it’s an urgent call to action. The global LGBTIQ movement faces unprecedented challenges but also opportunities to innovate and push boundaries. This year’s convening is about equipping ourselves with the tools, strategies, and solidarity needed to navigate these turbulent times and drive meaningful progress,”
Maria Sjödin Executive Director of Outright International

Whether attending in person or virtually, participants can expect exclusive insights from global leaders and gain access to key findings and strategies from leading voices in LGBTIQ activism. The event will empower attendees to contribute to the dialogue, learn from global experts, and find actionable solutions to the most pressing challenges faced by LGBTIQ persons.

Changes in government in different parts of the world, including the United States, have raised deep concerns for many who care about fundamental human rights and freedoms for LGBTIQ people around the world. Outright International emphasizes that rising nationalism, authoritarianism, calls to withdraw from multilateral institutions, and attacks on gender equality threaten global progress and pose the risk of further backsliding. OutSummit will send a clear and urgent message that it is imperative for everyone who is committed to democracy to double down on efforts to uphold human rights for all.
