Shortly after Port-au-Prince was devastated by a massive earthquake on January 12, IGLHRC issued an appeal to raise money for our partners at SEROvie, who lost their headquarters, supplies, and many of their members in the disaster. Over the past two weeks, your generosity has been tremendous, and our partners at SEROvie asked us to convey their deepest gratitude to all of you who have offered your support at this difficult time. Your donations are making a world of difference as SEROvie continues to provide essential medications, supplies, and care to LGBT communities in Haiti and those living with HIV and AIDS. The response thus far has been incredibly heartening, and we will be posting updates on the relief efforts later this week.
The scope of the devastation that Haiti has experienced is staggering, and requires a serious long-term commitment to relief efforts from the international community. LGBT people need to be included in these ongoing efforts, both as donors and recipients.
To this end, IGLHRC is thus pleased to announce the creation of the LGBT Americans for Earthquake Relief in Haiti Campaign. This fund, created by Atlantis, Olivia, and RSVP Cruises in partnership with the American Red Cross, will continue to channel contributions from the LGBT community to the relief efforts in Haiti. We encourage those of you who are able to give to visit the LGBT Americans for Earthquake Relief in Haiti Campaign. With this effort, we hope that the LGBT community – and all who would help rebuild Haiti following the earthquake – will be able to give the attention, resources, and support necessary to aid in a long and difficult recovery.
