On the upcoming Monday next week, the CHP Parlamentarian of Equal Opportunities Commission for Men and Women, Dr. Binnaz Toprak, will leave for New York to receive an award from the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission.
The CHP Parliamentarian will be given an award for her work for homosexual rights. Along with honoree Dr. Toprak who will receive the Outspoken Award, Yasemin Öz, a human rights activist and feminist from Turkey will receive the Felipa de Souza Award.
According to the knowledge of the Star Magazine, the Istanbul CHP Parliamentarian of Equal Opportunities Commission for Men and Women, Dr. Binnaz Toprak, went to New York together with her daughter, in order to receive the honoree award for her work for homosexual rights, given by the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission.
The CHP Parliamentarian, who brought up the issues of LGBT individuals in front of the Parliament, will receive the award from the Emmy and Tony award winning American Sex and the City star, Cynthia Nixon.
Along with the CHP parliamentarian Dr. Toprak, the lawyer and founder of the LGBT organization Kaos GL, Yasemin Öz, will be presented and honored with the Felipa de Souza Award. Felipa de Souza symbolizes the story of a Brazilian lesbian fighter during the years of 1556-1600.
In addition, besides Dr. Toprak and Öz, another woman, Dorothy Sander, will be honored with the Special Recognition Award during the 2013 Human Rights Award of IGLHRC.
The former New York resident CHP Parliamentarian Dr. Toprak is a graduate of Hunter College, of the City University of New York.
