With countries scrambling to respond to a crisis that has frozen the worldwide economy, OutRight Action International Executive Director Jessica Stern said the global LGBTQ+ advocacy organization began to hear from queer and trans people from all over the world who were unable to get food or basic supplies and feared they would starve. Many of these communities, she added, were already living on the “razor’s edge of poverty.”
“If you don’t have savings, you don’t have a bank account, or you can’t work from home, your revenue immediately stops," Stern told them. “It's frozen in time at the moment when the government issued the shelter-in-place order.”
