WHY:
On the global stage, last year alone we saw the worst crackdown on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) communities worldwide. All over the world hundreds of LGBTIQ people were arrested, harassed, persecuted, and some even killed. Amidst the horrors and backlash against LGBTIQ people all around the world, it is imperative to highlight the the astounding resilience of this community and the stories that often go untold.
Hear from Georges Azzi who can comment on how the Arabic media has been a driver of homophobia and inciting government crackdowns against LGBTIQ people. The work Azzi and AFEMENA leads aims to sensitize journalists and establish a professional bar of reporting objectively on LGBTIQ issues that are perceived as highly sensitive in the region.
Speak to Karamo Brown who has a passion for global LGBTIQ rights, and as the Culture Expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye, which has just been renewed for a second season.
